Introduction
Coming to CITV in December 2006 is the new season two of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, for anyone that has seen the first season, or been reading the episode guides in the magazine you’ll be aware that GX is based a few years after the original Yu-Gi-Oh! Animé and follows the journey of one Jaden Yuki, and his friends as they work their way through school, and towards the end battle the Shadow Riders. After a hectic first year in Duel Academy what will the season year hold for our hero and his friends?
New Characters
Along with most of the old gang, season two brings forward a new member of the gang, a new evil, and even a new vice-chancellor.
After Chumley got offered the job at Industrial Illusions there became a space in Jaden’s “gang” of friends, which was soon filled by the Army Sergeant, Dinosaur Duelist Tyranno Hassleberry. Keep an eye out for Tyranno and his relationship with Jaden’s best friend Syrus during season two, as the two interact a lot with some amusing results.
Since Jaden managed to defeat Kagemaru and his band of Shadow Riders in season one, you’d expect that life would be a little simpler for our young hero in his second year. However, this isn’t to be the case, as a new group appear with the intention of destroying the world and rebuilding it in their own image. The Society of Light appears in season two with leader Sartorius, and professional duelist Aster Phoenix who are out in full force to destroy the darkness.
Society of Light
The Society of Light is an organisation intent on destroying the world to rebuild it in their own image. Unlike most evil factions Yu-Gi-Oh! GX takes the unusual idea of making “Light” the baddies while the “Darkness” are the good guys. The Society of Light aims to brainwash all the members of Duel Academy and sees a number of showdowns between all your favourite characters including Chazz, Alexis, Bastian and even new series favourite Tyranno Hassleberry. Throughout the series, Society of Light leader Sartorius sends many duelists after Jaden in an attempt to convert him to his cause. This leads to a showdown between Jaden and professional duelist Aster Phoenix who is managed by Sartorius himself. Throughout the second series Jaden and the Society of Light have many encounters and some interesting duels involving a range of themes which will keep any fan of the first series entertained.

Neo-Space
After Jaden’s first encounter with Aster Phoenix, Jaden ends up in Neo Space and meets Neo-Spacian Aqua Dolphin and Elemental Hero Neos who end up joining Jaden’s deck to help convert it from Elemental Heroes Deck into the Elemental Hero Neos Deck. With the power of these new cards Jaden will try and harness the power and stop the Society of Light!

Zane
After Season One of GX Zane and Jaden competed to a draw in the final ceremonial graduation duel and since Zane had been competing as a fan favourite in the Pro Leagues. After a number of losses Zane turns on his old philosophy and no longer respects his opponent’s or his cards and becomes “Hell Kaiser” (Note: In the first series he is referred to as “Kaiser”* in Japan) in the Japanese series turning his back on respect, and plays only to win. Look out for him bringing out cards like Chimeratech Overdragon, and Cyberdark Dragon!

*Kaiser is the German name for “Emperor”
Genex Tournament
Towards the end of the series Pegasus and Chancellor Sheppard set up a Genex Tournament in order to pull out the duelist with an all-powerful card that had been stolen from a top card designer years ago. In this part of the season you’ll be introduced to new characters, as well as see some old ones return. The Genex Tournament starts from episode 84 and continues to the end of season two.

Summary
Season two is looking to be extremely exciting, combining new elements into the series along with several new characters. Of course some of your favourite characters are still in the Academy and of course it wouldn’t be Yu-Gi-Oh! without a battle between good and evil. If you enjoyed the previous season you’ll probably love this one too so don’t forget to catch it every weekday morning on CITV from mid-December here in the UK.
